I have been having trouble with the lips too and I watched her a while ago, grabbed a piece of clay and got lips I like. dahs512: She does make it look easy spksgntly2: and that Nj can whip up a face in 10 min nndewbre: but not female lips nndewbre: I can't get female lips dahs512: What is the difference in a male face and a female face? spksgntly2: the forehead isnt as pronounced posey4u: ears spksgntly2: and the jaw is softer dahs512: Aaah, the brow? spksgntly2: yep spksgntly2: did I win???? dahs512: The jaw in the back spksgntly2: wel the chin area dahs512: I'm asking because it has been awhile for me mazutwo: one is squarer man one is softer woman mazutwo: me too over 15 years dahs512: I've started lots of faces, but only a few have finished posey4u: WE ARE WOMAN>>>HEAR US ROAR LOL nndewbre: no fair NJ, she already looks female spksgntly2: lol icare4bunnies has joined the conference. You have invited icare4bunnies to view your webcam. norajean_sf: Jael is in da house icare4bunnies: :) beadyeyedbrat: I've had exactly one sculpting lesson and that was with Dawn Schiller. beadyeyedbrat: Hi Jael icare4bunnies: I'll try to behave. beadyeyedbrat: If you do, I have to. mazutwo: why dahs512: I know a few of the names here...heheh mazutwo: I don't know anybody beadyeyedbrat: Dawn does awesome work, but they are all fantasy. dahs512: The chin is something I tend to have to redo a lot. I end up mushing it around by accident dahs512: Mazuto, I am Denise icare4bunnies: did nj start with a lump of clay or is she doing it over an armature mazutwo: note how Nj holds it at the neck spksgntly2: lump dahs512: I didn't see an armature, but realize how small her head is dahs512: My hot hand would be mushing it already beadyeyedbrat: Mine too icare4bunnies: I've had so much trouble with cracking clay lately mazutwo: hi denise I am Marilyn from Australia dahs512: I remember that Jael. icare4bunnies: you could dip your hands in ice water from time to time. mazutwo: sorry Denise I am a bad typer dahs512: Nice to meet you Marilyn spksgntly2: debbie from ny icare4bunnies: hi marilyn icare4bunnies: Jael from IL mazutwo: hi Jael love the name norajean_sf: Her nose made me crazy icare4bunnies: ty dahs512: I found that putting the head on a skewer helps me norajean_sf: I'm going to do her again dahs512: LOL dahs512: NJ, you are so bad....lol nndewbre: what happened? beadyeyedbrat: But how do you get it off without smushing? creationsbypat has joined the conference. spksgntly2: I know a few heads I'd like on a skewer dahs512: I don't know yet Kim...heheh icare4bunnies: I have no idea why my clay is cracking, and I would hate to do all that work on a head and have it crack nndewbre: good, I missed that mouth awhile ago icare4bunnies: nj how do you keep it from becoming a linty mess? mazutwo: si laughed and choked on my drink dahs512: Jael, do you let your work cool in the oven as it cools down? icare4bunnies: sometimes. dahs512: I put plastic on it until I get to it again beadyeyedbrat: Does it crack while you work with it or after you cure it? icare4bunnies: Oh, mine starts with lint as soon as I work on it icare4bunnies: in the oven beadyeyedbrat: What clay? dahs512: Sometimes if a piece isnot baked thouroughly and then quickly cooled the outside will crack icare4bunnies: only occasionally. both fimo and premo. and I bake for 40 min to an hour. beadyeyedbrat: The only time I've had with cracking was when I used some scrap clay for the center. dahs512: NJ never seems to have any cracks icare4bunnies: regardless of bead size. I have the worst problem with some of the metallic clays. beadyeyedbrat: My scrap can contain every possible brand of clay available and a few that have been discontinued. dahs512: On the lint subject - important new tip......wear white icare4bunnies: but it doesn't always happen dahs512: and nothing fuzzy spksgntly2: ok time for me to go to bed...my granddaughter will be up early icare4bunnies: LOL my house is made of lint spksgntly2: good night everyone... icare4bunnies: night mazutwo: bye dahs512: dnight posey4u: nite spksgntly2 has left the conference. beadyeyedbrat: My tip for not getting fuzzy clay has been to stop putting it in the same tote bag as my knitting. icare4bunnies: LOL dahs512: good tip...heheh posey4u: good idea icare4bunnies: it's just the light clay I have problems with, which is what nj is using icare4bunnies: I'd have to paint my faces beadyeyedbrat: You might try turning off your oven and letting it cool gradually. dahs512: I'm gonna start a list of questions to ask NJ, so I'll be right back icare4bunnies: k posey4u: I know do the claying in the nude, that way theres no lint from the clothes beadyeyedbrat: Just leave it in there icare4bunnies: ROFLOL creationsbypat: LOL icare4bunnies: BRRRRR beadyeyedbrat: The oooonly way to clay icare4bunnies: looks like most of nj's scupting is done with a tool icare4bunnies: the same toole posey4u: sounds like a plan to me icare4bunnies: that might help with the lint dahs512: nude claying - too visual - I just spewed coffee posey4u: only a suggestion dahs512: lol icare4bunnies: I'm cold with a t shirt on right now mazutwo: pearls not too under dressed here beadyeyedbrat: So I shouldn't tell you about the class I taught at the noodist resort? mazutwo: why not posey4u: its not to bad here around 38 dahs512: I think Nj is going to like her nose this time...notice the wider areat the nostrils beadyeyedbrat: Bout 58 here creationsbypat: What do you guys know about the pm "Atlas Motor" is it a good machine and motor? beadyeyedbrat: yup icare4bunnies: I guess you have to make sure you sculpt the nose with enough clay to make nostrils nefret111: bak - but gotta go - thanks so much nora jean and all! nighty night! posey4u: is that why she squished the face before...she didnt like the nose beadyeyedbrat: Easier to remove than add nefret111 has left the conference. beadyeyedbrat: Yes it is dahs512: yes dahs512: She put the nostrils in with hust a couple of pokes. It takes me forever dahs512: just creationsbypat: Kim is that my answer? yes beadyeyedbrat: Most people who really ike their pasta machines have Atlases. beadyeyedbrat: At least the ones I have talked to about it. mazutwo: I have an el cheapo and it is ok but I don't do a lot of claying yet creationsbypat: ah ok, it's birthday time and I have ordered one just got it today, how noisy should it be? beadyeyedbrat: If you get into it seriously, you will eventually want a heavier duty reliable one. beadyeyedbrat: They're pretty noisy. beadyeyedbrat: Jennifer is prolly the one to ask about that. mazutwo: the Atlas had only arrived in Aus about July last year beadyeyedbrat: But folks are raving about the new one by Makins beadyeyedbrat: I have 4 pms. creationsbypat: ok that's a relief. What is a heavy duty one? beadyeyedbrat: No motors yet mazutwo: ok sounds good posey4u: I have one ordered beadyeyedbrat: The Atlas 150?? I think? pcajenny: KIM! who you callin "Jennifer" ????? creationsbypat: LOL beadyeyedbrat: Sorry Jen icare4bunnies has left the conference. pcajenny: only people who don't know me call me that! beadyeyedbrat: I don't know how well the rest of the bunch know you. beadyeyedbrat: :"> pcajenny: lol dahs512: I just thought about the cracking issue. 40 minutes is probably not long enough to bake a head beadyeyedbrat: How thick? pcajenny: my pasta machine is an atlas, and it is almost 14 years old and still going strong beadyeyedbrat: It should be 15 min per 1/4" pcajenny: and I use it a LOT dahs512: even the size NJ is doing creationsbypat: wow yes I know you do Jenny posey4u: do you have a motor Jen pcajenny: it was well worth the price beadyeyedbrat: So if it's 1" at the thickest, an hour. pcajenny: yes I do beadyeyedbrat: Maybe longer just to be sure. creationsbypat: which one do you have Jenny? posey4u: is it noisy beadyeyedbrat: So if the outer clay cools first... nndewbre: that's not the way NJ is telling us to do it. dahs512: I've never overbaked. As long as the temp is correct. pcajenny: the silver one by Marcato nndewbre: She's pretty NJ pcajenny: the noise doesn't bother me, but I know it would bother some people creationsbypat: is the motor cover plastic or metal? beadyeyedbrat: I bake almost everything for 1 hr. dahs512: I'll add that to the questions nndewbre: Mine burns at 1 hour posey4u: the old ones are plastic I think..the newer oness are metal pcajenny: it's chrome colored plastic! beadyeyedbrat: Burns? Does your oven spike? nndewbre: no nndewbre: what kind of clay do you use? dahs512: Your tyemp is either to high or your oven might fluctuate a lot - like spike the temp when it is heating? beadyeyedbrat: All of it. norajean_sf: well she's a she dahs512: Looks good NJ beadyeyedbrat: Fimo, Kato, Premo, Promat, Granitex creationsbypat: well that is the same one I got, then I should be ok, no more aching tendonitis in the elbow! mazutwo: pretty dahs512: \We have questions, if you have a minute norajean_sf: I'll take questions now beadyeyedbrat: Everything but the Sculpeys norajean_sf: who had questions about face sculpting? dahs512: How do you keep the lint off....what are you wearing----or are you nude...lol norajean_sf: all my clothes are too old to have lint posey4u: ya NJ..how do you keep the lint off norajean_sf: LOL dahs512: How do you decide the nostrils norajean_sf: When I'm working on a whole body I do wrap the parts that I'm not working on in waxed paper to keep it clean, uncovering only that part I'm working on. nndewbre: Beady I think the sculpy's is my problem norajean_sf: The nose sort of takes on a life of it's own most of the time. I do the outside of the nostrils before poking holes, when I poke the holes I pull side ways to accentuate the outside of the nostrils. nndewbre: are my problem, whatever dahs512: Do you like this nose better? And why norajean_sf: after the first cure we can file and remove excess clay. norajean_sf: the other nose had no clay for the sides of the nostrils. norajean_sf: Like a bad nose job aka Michael Jackson norajean_sf: pinchy nose dahs512: I see nndewbre: so why couldn't you just add a pinch of clay rather then start over? dahs512: When you bake, how long? and how do you keep it from cracking? norajean_sf: the position I have to be in to sculpt on cam makes it harder for me to get a face right. I've been practicing all week and the faces came out better, but I was practicing without hunching over a cam set up. norajean_sf: I cure all clay at the same length of time. When I'm doing a head like this there's not a lot of clay involved, there's usually an aluminum skull norajean_sf: and one layer of clay to cover, another layer of clay for features. norajean_sf: so a half hour is enough, none of my figures get away with one curing though norajean_sf: I'll sculpt as close as I can get, cure and then file the face to make adjustments. Who has seen the Lady with the Pot? norajean_sf: I must have done her mouth a half a dozen times. dahs512: Show again please norajean_sf: I'll get the link. dahs512: I thought she was there norajean_sf: http://www.norajean.com/New_Projects/ManAndBeast/LadyWpot/Index.htm norajean_sf: she was sculpted and then filed, raw clay put over the filed parts, cured again, filed again. norajean_sf: in the repeated curings her clothing didn't burn dahs512: I thought you had said the lady in the pot...lol norajean_sf: her skin didn't discolor norajean_sf: LOL dahs512: I remember her norajean_sf: http://www.norajean.com/New_Projects/ManAndBeast/LadyWpot/Index-5.htm norajean_sf: here I show how I put on raw clay for another mouth after I filed off the mouth she had because I wasn't pleased with it. dahs512: ok, what movie was that...matrix? norajean_sf: Ya, how can you make a call when you cannot speak? dahs512: The missing mouth dahs512: heheh norajean_sf: I have an older section about filing faces. norajean_sf: Biz-Archive/Sculpt/FileFaces/Intro beadyeyedbrat: My back is killing me. I'll be watching, but gotta lie down. beadyeyedbrat: ttyl norajean_sf: it's when I discovered that I could file faces and get closer to the look I wanted. See ya Kim. dahs512: I haven't the patience for major filing, but it has come in handy norajean_sf: oh you're going to watch and lie down, I understand. dahs512: bye kim dahs512: oops, never mind norajean_sf: it's just that the first time we sculpt a face it isn't the last time we can adjust the face norajean_sf: if you got to remove the nose and add a new one, you can. norajean_sf: I don't know about skin clay that has a lot of translucent, that might be a different story. norajean_sf: but with white and burnt umber than I use adding raw clay on cured clay is ok. posey4u: to bad you cant do that with your own nose norajean_sf: I often cover it with a "make up" mix of skin clay and TLS to smooth off the file marks. dahs512: Some one asked why you mushed up the first one...besides to start over it was to show something to them right norajean_sf: Or other parts of our body, yes. LOL norajean_sf: When a face isn't cooperating, I'll mash it up and give it another go nndewbre: Ok guys, its been fun and informative and very helpful NJ. Thanks a bunch but it's midnight 30 here, gotta go to bed norajean_sf: sculpting and mushing is practice dahs512: becouse you have no fear norajean_sf: Ya, we're winding down. norajean_sf: You get your rest Norma dahs512: nite nndewbre nndewbre: see y'all tomorrow nndewbre: bye norajean_sf: we'll be reviewing this all week end nndewbre has left the conference. dahs512: Shall I save the log for you NJ? norajean_sf: Biz-Archive/LEXX-Home/CowboyKai-3b norajean_sf: here is Kai's face with file marks norajean_sf: Biz-Archive/LEXX-Home/CowboyKai-3e mazutwo: can one brand of clay be mixed with another brand of softener norajean_sf: here's the same face with TLS and skin clay Make Up. norajean_sf: yes Marilyn mazutwo: thanks norajean_sf: You can use something like solid translucent to soften up clay, or mineral oil norajean_sf: mix new clay with old clay of the same color mazutwo: thanks norajean_sf: I use Translucent Liquid Sculpey or liquid clay to soften the clay if it's hard norajean_sf: Denise I'll save log I'm keeping them as draft email norajean_sf: I'll do that now that we're thinking about it. dahs512: ok posey4u: like I said earlier NJ you need to write a book or do a video ..your so smart & talented mazutwo: ok that's what i am doing but am not sure what the brand of clay is norajean_sf: brb, saving log dahs512: it doesn't usually matter Marilyn norajean_sf: back norajean_sf: I didn't start out any more skilled than any beginner mazutwo: thank you NJ I am going to think about all I learnt and write it down as I find I remember more that way. It will be early for me tomorrow so I could be late as it is Sunday here norajean_sf: I have pictures on the biz site of my early efforts to prove that posey4u: well I know ill never be as good as you ...Im not a real good crafter...my expertise is solving problems & working with numbers norajean_sf: So you're heading out Marilyn? We're winding down. dahs512: I'll see every one tommorw if I don't get home too late. I need to go recline myself. norajean_sf: You get your rest Denise, I'm just taking questions at this point. dahs512: Thank you NJ for the Demo, and thanks everyone for all the info. norajean_sf: My pleasure, Denise thanks for the back up on virtual scribe. mazutwo: you can use maths to do crafts and art if that's the way you think hugs to all Marilyn Thanks heaps NJ Marilyn posey4u: Im leaving too...got to get some beauty sleep HAHA...thx NJ for all you do to help me & the others nite norajean_sf: I'll be doing this all week end for those who want to clay along. dahs512: The least I could do. Thanks Denise has left the conference. posey4u has left the conference. mazutwo has left the conference. norajean_sf: ok, it's the end of the demo, are there any questions?
